About the App

  • What does this app do? Our app helps you understand the level of processing in your food. You can upload or scan your grocery receipts, and we’ll categorize the food items based on the NOVA food classification system, giving you insights into your eating habits and expenses.
  • What is the NOVA food classification system? NOVA is a system that categorizes foods into four groups based on their level of processing:
    • NOVA 1: Unprocessed or Minimally Processed Foods: These are natural foods like fruits, vegetables, meat, and eggs.
    • NOVA 2: Processed Culinary Ingredients: These are ingredients used in cooking, such as oils, butter, sugar, and salt.
    • NOVA 3: Processed Foods: These are simple products made by adding ingredients like salt, sugar, or oil to NOVA 1 foods. Examples include canned fish, and freshly made bread.
    • NOVA 4: Ultra-Processed Foods: These are industrial formulations with five or more ingredients, often including substances not typically used in home cooking. Examples include soft drinks, packaged snacks, and pre-prepared frozen meals.

Using the App

  • How do I sign up? You can easily sign up using your existing Apple or Google account.
  • How do I upload a receipt? You can either take a picture of your receipt directly within the app or upload an existing image from your phone’s gallery.
  • What if an item is not a food item? Non-food items on your receipt will be categorized as “Non-Food” and will not be included in the NOVA analysis.
  • What kind of insights can I get? The app provides a breakdown of your purchases across the four NOVA categories. You can also track your spending on each category over time. You can also track non-food item category expenses.

Data and Privacy

  • What data do you collect? We collect your name and email from your Apple or Google login, and the information from the receipts you upload.
  • How do you use my data? We use your data to provide the service, including categorizing your food and offering you personalized insights. We also use anonymized data to improve our app.
  • Do you sell my data? No, we do not sell your personal data. Please see our Privacy Policy for more details.

How do I delete my account and my data? You can delete your account from the app’s settings. This will permanently remove your personal information and all associated receipt data from our active systems.
